Teach You a Lesson just released on Netflix, and after watching the first episode I ended up finishing all 10 episodes. I started it because the trailer looked interesting, but the series turned out to be much better than I expected.
Teach You a Lesson is a South Korean series that focuses on what happens when schools start losing control.
Students are involved in violence, bullying, drugs, blackmail, and other serious crimes. Some teachers are afraid of their own students, innocent kids become victims, and families get caught in the middle of it all.
To deal with these problems, a special team is brought in by the Ministry of Education to investigate what is happening and protect the people being affected.
What surprised me most is that the series doesn't tell just one story.
Several episodes focus on different schools and different situations, which keeps the show fresh throughout its run. After finishing the first episode, I thought I knew what kind of series this would be. Then I realized each new case would bring a completely different challenge.
The show isn't only about students either.
Teachers, parents, school staff, and government officials all play important roles. Because of that, the world feels much bigger and more realistic.
The first episode delivers a huge payoff, and from that point I couldn't stop watching. The ending is excellent, the opening episodes are excellent, and even the middle part kept me interested. A few sections are slightly slower, but never enough to make me want to stop.
One thing I really appreciated is how realistic many situations felt.
Some viewers might think certain events are exaggerated, but problems like bullying, violence, corruption, student mental health struggles, and abuse of power exist in many places around the world.
The series never feels like it's forcing a message on the audience. It focuses on telling an entertaining story first, and the themes naturally become part of the experience.
I also found it interesting how seriously education is treated within the story. Teachers are respected, academic corruption has consequences, and the education system is shown as something worth protecting.
The action scenes are surprisingly good, the comedy works well when needed, and almost every episode delivers a satisfying payoff.
Most importantly, the series stays engaging from beginning to end.
Honestly, I struggled to find major negatives. If I had to pick one, some middle sections move a little slower than the rest. Other than that, I had a great time with it.
For me, this is an easy recommendation.
Rating: 9/10
