Star City is a new sci-fi series that asks one fascinating question: What if the Soviet Union reached the Moon before America?
I just finished the first two episodes of Star City, and if you're into science fiction, alternate history, space exploration, political intrigue, or secret missions, this is exactly the kind of show that grabs your attention.
The series is connected to For All Mankind, but you don't need to watch that show first. You can jump straight into Star City without any problems.
The idea is simple but incredibly interesting.
Instead of America making history with the first Moon landing, the Soviet Union gets there first.
And that's where everything changes.
This isn't really a story about reaching the Moon.
It's a story about what happens after that victory.
The space race becomes bigger. The Cold War becomes more intense. Governments become more suspicious. And everyone starts fighting for the future.
One thing I really enjoyed is that the series doesn't focus only on astronauts and space missions.
The KGB plays a major role too.
There is constant fear that American spies could be hiding anywhere, waiting to sabotage the mission. That creates a layer of tension that makes the story feel much bigger than a normal space drama.
Visually, the show looks fantastic.
The production design, the colors, the spacecraft, and the Moon sequences all feel incredibly authentic. It genuinely feels like you've been transported back into that era.
The performances are strong, and the atmosphere is probably the show's biggest strength.
That being said, this is definitely a slow-burn series.
It takes its time.
If you're expecting nonstop action every few minutes, this probably isn't for you.
But if you enjoy stories that slowly build tension and reward patience, there's a lot to like here.
After two episodes, I'm honestly very optimistic about where this story is heading.
