Backrooms movie Review: A Psychological Horror Movie That Turns Endless Yellow Rooms Into Pure Nightmare
Backrooms is a psychological horror movie about a man who discovers a hidden world of endless yellow rooms that seem to go on forever.
I watched "Backrooms", and the first thing that surprised me wasn't the story.
It was the fact that this movie was created by 'Kane Parsons', the creator behind the viral Backrooms videos on YouTube. Even more impressive, he made it at a very young age and somehow turned an internet horror concept into a full movie experience.
The story follows a man who discovers that he can pass through a wall in his office and enter a strange maze of endless yellow rooms. The deeper he goes, the more questions start appearing.
What is this place?
Why does it exist?
And is there any way back out?
What I liked most is that this isn't a traditional horror movie. There are no constant jump scares, haunted dolls, or supernatural ghosts trying to chase people around.
Instead, the movie creates fear through atmosphere, isolation, and uncertainty.
Most of the tension comes from simply being trapped inside a place that feels wrong in every possible way.
The yellow rooms, endless hallways, and empty spaces create a sense of claustrophobia that becomes more intense as the movie moves forward. If enclosed spaces make you uncomfortable, some scenes will genuinely get under your skin.
The performances are also surprisingly strong, especially considering that most of the movie relies on only a small number of characters carrying the entire experience.
Another thing I enjoyed is how the film constantly keeps you thinking. It gives answers to some questions but leaves many others open for interpretation. The final act especially sparked a lot of discussion in my head long after the credits rolled.
That said, this movie won't work for everyone.
If you prefer straightforward horror with clear explanations, you may find some parts frustrating. The film asks a lot of questions and doesn't always provide simple answers.
But if you enjoy psychological horror, mystery, science fiction, and movies that trust the audience to think for themselves, "Backrooms" is absolutely worth watching.
