So I checked out The House of Spirit… and before anything else, let me be clear — this is not a casual watch.
This is a supernatural drama, but at the same time, it gets pretty disturbing. There’s a scene early on that crosses into very uncomfortable territory, and that alone tells you something important:
👉 this is NOT something you watch with family.
The story, at its core, revolves around different women across generations. But right now, only the first three episodes are out, and most of the focus is on one central character. She has this ability to see spirits since childhood… and even as she grows up, that ability doesn’t go away. At the same time, there’s another emotional thread running parallel.
A man who once loved her sister deeply… but loses her. That loss breaks him completely. And later, he ends up marrying the main character. But he’s not the same person anymore. And that’s where things start getting uncomfortable, both emotionally and psychologically.
What I found interesting is the tone. This isn’t a fast, gripping show that pulls you in immediately. In fact, it does the opposite. The first few episodes take their time. Sometimes too much. You’re watching… but you’re not fully hooked yet. And that’s where it can lose people.
Around the end of Episode 1, things start connecting a bit. By Episode 3, it leaves you on a strong enough note that you actually want to know what happens next. So yeah — it grows on you, but slowly.
One reason for that could be the source material. This series is based on a novel, and it feels like it’s written more for people who are already familiar with that world. Because the storytelling here is not beginner-friendly. It doesn’t explain everything clearly. It expects you to keep up.
But visually… this show looks beautiful. There are moments — especially with landscapes, houses, mountains — that feel almost unreal, like you’re looking at something straight out of a painting. The production quality is strong. The performances are solid. Technically, it’s done really well.
Where it struggles is pacing. The show is deliberately slow. And not everyone is going to have the patience for that. It’s not easy to watch. It demands attention. You can’t just play it in the background.
So overall, after three episodes… It’s interesting, it has potential, but it’s not something I’d recommend to everyone. If you like slow, layered, slightly disturbing stories — you might connect with it. If you want something fast and instantly gripping… this might not work for you.
For me, it’s around a 7.5 out of 10 so far.
So let’s be honest — Would you sit through a slow, disturbing series just because it has long-term potential… or do you drop it the moment it fails to hook you quickly?
